2025 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games Torch Arrives at Naval Academy, Passing on the Spirit of Sportsmanship
The torch of the 2025 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games was passed to the Republic of China Naval Academy yesterday afternoon. To highlight the military academies' efforts in fostering intercollegiate cooperation and carrying forward the spirit of sportsmanship, faculty members, staff, and students warmly welcomed the event. A torch relay team composed of student athletes participating in this year’s Universiade paraded the torch around campus, inspiring cadets to excel in the upcoming games and strive for glory.
This year’s Universiade torch relay is themed “The Flame of Glory Shines Across the Land, the Light of Mission Brings Hope”, and spans a three-day journey. On the second day, the torch reached the Naval Academy under the leadership of Dr. Yung-Long Lee, President of Chang Jung Christian University. The Naval Academy’s Director of Political Warfare, Colonel Wen, along with the Chief Instructor Sergeant Major Yu Tsung-Han and other key officers, faculty, and student representatives, received the torch in front of the “Jing-Zhong Giant Mast”, a symbol of the Academy’s continuous development.
During the ceremony, students from Chang Jung Christian University ran with the torch to the Giant Mast, where Colonel Wen and the designated torchbearers received the main and secondary flames. The Naval Academy’s torch relay team then proudly began their procession, spreading the flame’s spirit of vitality, brightness, and boundlessness across the campus. The ceremony also featured a powerful performance by the Naval Academy’s war drum team, symbolizing unshakable morale and the spirit of fearless advancement.
Colonel Wen emphasized that the Naval Academy is committed to its mission of “training first-class talent to build a first-class navy.” Through mastery of naval technology and operations, cultivation of self-discipline and leadership, moral education, and physical training, the Academy develops well-rounded naval officers. With the upcoming Universiade, he expressed hopes that the school’s athletes would embody sportsmanship, constantly strive for excellence, and achieve outstanding results.
After the ceremony, the torch was officially handed back to Chang Jung Christian University. Faculty and students from both schools gathered in front of the Giant Mast for a commemorative photo, embracing the spirit of the 2025 Universiade: “Chasing the Peak, Victory in Our Hands.”
