The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), actively responding to national policies and accelerating the establishment of a management mechanism for unmanned vehicles in Taiwan, promoting industrial development, and laying the foundation for forward-looking defense technology research and development, today (25th) at the administration building of National Sun Yat-sen University, joined forces with four renowned universities—National Sun Yat-sen University, the Naval Academy, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology—to form the "Underwater Unmanned Technology Strategic Alliance." The alliance aims to leverage NCSIST's existing key technologies, integrate and deepen the scientific and academic capabilities of the four universities, develop and consolidate underwater technology, and strengthen the nation's overall scientific research capabilities.

The signing ceremony was attended by NCSIST Vice President Lin Kao-chou, National Sun Yat-sen University President Lee Chih-peng, Naval Academy President Rear Admiral Liu, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology President Chang Chin-lung, and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology Vice President Wu Chung-hsin, among others. Witnessed by representatives of the respective institutions, a memorandum of understanding was signed, officially launching industry-academia-research exchange and marking a significant milestone in the development of underwater technology.

The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) stated that the cooperation agreement with the four universities aims to enhance the development of underwater unmanned technology through industry-academia collaboration. The focus will be on technological innovation in areas such as autonomous navigation of underwater unmanned vehicles, underwater communication, and detection and positioning. The agreement will also refine the modular development of underwater unmanned vehicles and, by combining NCSIST's sensing payload capabilities, further support the development and commercialization of cutting-edge technologies in Taiwan's underwater technology industry. This will build a future R&D base and supply chain, creating diverse and mutually beneficial value.

Furthermore, strengthening the development of dual-use technologies is a key focus for NCSIST. In addition to actively anticipating future technological developments, NCSIST is actively collaborating with leading domestic universities to jointly promote relevant research projects, aiming to achieve more industry-academia-research collaborations and accelerate the iterative development of various underwater vehicle technologies. NCSIST firmly believes that this will not only achieve the goal of "integrating learning and application"—meeting talent cultivation, meeting industry needs, and promoting local economic development—but also successfully lay the foundation for the sustainable development of defense technology and the defense industry.
